I had finally gotten a chance to be home alone. My parents were
at a business dinner and my brother was some where. I had just settled down to
watch Beyond Belief (great show to watch alone, huh?) when I heard a knock at
the door. I got up and opened it, totally forgeting what my parents had said
about opening the door to strangers, but luckily no one was there. Then I
heard something. A small voice coming from the doormat. I looked down and to
my complete horror, I found a tiny man. No, not a midget, but a fairy sized
man. I screamed and ran off into the living room and dived onto the couch near
tears. "Please..." I heard the small voice say. I forced myself to walk
back to the door. The man's voice was so tiny I couldn't hear everything he
said. I caught: "...Curse...stay...day...nice." I bent down and picked
him up. I noticed he wasn't a man, but a boy about two years younger than
me. "I...couldn't hear all you said..." I managed still horrified. "My
name is Lucus." He seemed to wait for my name before he continued.
"Blair." "I made a deal with...eh...someone that if I could put up
with two days of being tiny, I could be two feet taller when it was over. But
I didn't know it would be so hard. It's like a curse, you know? "I live
two houses down. I fell out my window and wandered around until I found my way
here. So may I stay the night? I'll be regular size some time tomorrow
morning." "Y-yes. I'll take you upstairs."
I sat him on a pillow on
my desk. "After the shock of meeting you I think I'll go to bed early." I
said and went into the bathroom. When I returned a half-hour later, for a
second time that night I found myself horrified. Lucus was gone. "Lucus!?"
I yelled. I heard what I assumed to be his voice and looked behind the desk
to find him caught in a spider web, which was barely supporting his weight, a
quarter of the way down. I scooped him up. "What happened?! You had me so
worried!" "Please don't yell like that. I'm real sorry." So, he was
one of those people that dodged questions. Oh well, I'd be rid of him
tomorrow. "Good night." I said and crawled into bed and turned off the
light. "Blair." I heard the small voice. "Hm?" "Can you promise me
something?" "I guess." "I don't know how long it will be tomorrow until
I'm big. Promise to protect me." "I promise." I mumbled before falling
asleep.
"Hey, Blair." I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Leave me
alone, Tom." I said thinking it was my brother. I didn't feel the hand
leave so I sat up. Shocked yet again, I found Lucus normal size (a bit on the
short side) with lovely wings. "You're a fairy!? You lied to me!?" "It
was true that I needed to stay here until I could grow. You, know, you still
have to protect me." "Eh?" "I never said that you wouldn't have to when
I was big. And maybe the easiest way to protect me would be if I stayed here?
I could make your parents believe I'm a cousin of yours." "All right."
